An Ordinary Day
Updated to chapter 5

A 20 Masks/CCD crossover fic.

(Don't have a clue what I'm talking about? Scroll down for info!)

Clamp Campus Detectives - known more commonly as Clamp School Detectives, now that TokyoPop has translated the manga - is an absolutely adorable story revolving around three young boys with extraordinary lives. Imonoyama Nokoru, Takamura Suoh, and Ijyuin Akira work together in a detective team that takes on cases big or small - as long as there's a female involved.

ABOUT THE CHARACTERS (spoiler alert):

Nokoru: the oldest of the three, 12, sixth grade; he's a genius - NASA has tried to recruit him. He's also lazy and eccentric, which gives his friends more than a little trouble keeping him safe. His most notable (and odd) ability is the power he seems to have to sense whenever a female is in trouble - and then, coupled with that, to practically fly through the air and move mountains to help her. It was his idea to start the detective agency to "aid women everywhere," and he is sort of the leader; usually, he figures out the mysteries before anyone else.

His family OWNS the entire campus, which is basically like a small city. Money is not and never will be a problem for this boy.

Suoh: Long-suffering and the straightman, Suoh is 11 years old and in fifth grade. The oldest son in a long family line of powerful ninjas, his duty is to choose someone whom he will protect for the rest of his life, and he picked Nokoru. This turns out to be a fortunate thing on many occasions; as brilliant physically as Nokoru is mentally, Suoh has combat skills that can take down any adult who tries to cross him.

The "adult" by default, Suoh's unusual abilities, sense of organization, and deep maturity are more than needed in his role as Nokoru's bodyguard.

Akira: the youngest of the three, Akira is 10 years old and enrolled in the fourth grade. He seems to be utterly naive, sweet in the extreme and sacrificially helpful. His ability to cook is renowned - to the point that he teaches university- level classes.

He's also brilliant in mathematics, which is why he holds the position of treasurer (and uses an abacus, for some reason). Providing cheer and common-sense observations of sanity to his friends, Akira is an essential part of the balance maintained between the three heroes.

The real mystery is how he manages to hide his double life so well that no one suspects who he really is. Akira Ijyuin is, ludicrous as it seems, 20 Masks, one of Japan's most brilliant and well-known thieves.

His speed, creativity, and dexterity as 20 Masks are renowned, as well as his gentlemanly behavior - he always leaves notes ahead of time letting the police know what he's going to steal so as to give them a sporting chance.

Despite the fact that as "Akira" his naivety can lower one's impression of his IQ, when he's "20 Masks," all his brilliance comes through. He's a favorite enigma of CLAMP Campus because almost no one knows who he is or how he always succeeds in his wild stunts.

Even more confusing, he has two mothers. Both of them (twins) were in love with his father - the previous generation's 20 Masks - and both of them are (possibly) married to him; however, no one knows for sure which one actually gave birth to Akira.

Akira is loyal and loves them very much, so he puts up with their insistence that he does all the cooking, all the cleaning, all the caretaking - and in fact, steals for them absolutely anything they want. His conscience bothers him about this, but it's a contradiction he lives with and hides carefully - because to reveal it would put those he loves in danger.

Other Characters:

Ryusuke: a neighbor - big brother figure, who happens to be obssessed with catching 20 Masks

Akechi: CLAMP campus doctor and subtle surrogate father-figure - also happens to be Akira's paternal uncle, although Akira doesn't know that

Mother A and Mother B: the two women who share parental privileges over Akira, although they don't actually DO much that could be considered parental

All three boys are the top students in their grade; all have a dedicated fan following among the students. Between the three of them, it's no wonder that nearly any mystery or challenge is laid bare within days; it's also no surprise that the three play an important role in later CLAMP series such as X.

For more information on CCD, this page has a pretty decent summary. If you want more than that, check places like AniPike or just do a general search. Also, don't forget to buy the manga - Tokyo Pop REALLY did a good job with it!

No more spoilers for now; read the fic, and enjoy
